Mission

The mission of Woodlawn Montessori is to provide a nurturing Montessori environment in which children are supported and respected so that they can grow to fulfill their individual potential.

Woodlawn Montessori School educates children using the authentic Montessori approach—a multi-sensory curriculum that allows for individualized teaching and for students to learn and be challenged at their own pace as they develop academically. As a community that fosters self-confidence, leadership, and respect for self and others, Woodlawn Montessori encourages students to grow as self-motivated, intellectually engaged learners who will serve their larger communities as both accomplished students and ambassadors of peace.

Vision

Woodlawn Montessori School is guided by its vision to create a child-centered learning environment that involves families, educators, and the community in nurturing the whole child. We believe that school can provide creative, structured tools to support children in being active learners who care for their environment, value their diverse community, and who think and work both independently and collaboratively.

A Montessori classroom is unique because it offers:

  • Respect for each child and their special talents.

  • Respect for others, the community and the environment.

  • Individualized lesson plans to meet each child where
    they are.

  • Freedom for children to work at their own pace, without interruption, choosing from a range of activities that are developmentally challenging and appropriate.

  • Self-correcting materials in a classroom designed to stimulate academic exploration.

  • Mixed age groups to enable children to learn from others and learn by helping others.

  • Culturally sensitive materials and a globally and community oriented curriculum.

Each child has unique potential and a unique path of development. Our task is to provide an atmosphere of acceptance, respect, and trust so that creativity and a sense of civic responsibility flourish.
